James McIntosh

James McIntosh is a World Award winning cookery writer, home economist and demonstrator.

James was brought up in Ballylisk House by his Home Economics teacher mum and farmer dad. Therefore, food is all he has ever known.  From an early age he was taught to appreciate the importance of fresh produce and the care with which it should be brought “from farm to fork” alongside the value of sharing regular meals with the family.  In our fast-paced, media-saturated world, fewer and fewer families sit down at a table to share dinner and a conversation. These days at Ballylisk House are in part an attempt to recapture those moments.

James now lives in London where he runs his own internationally successful Home Economics consultancy, Whisk.  He has spent the last decade tirelessly building a brand which has become synonymous with providing food styling, recipe development and consultancy support to major household names such as AGA, New Zealand Lamb, Tefal and British Airways.  Before launching Whisk, James accrued invaluable experience working both in recipe development for Le Cordon Bleu Cookery Schools and as a consumer researcher for the Good Housekeeping Institute.

James frequently lectures at conferences and symposiums across the world on a wide range of food-related subjects.  He regularly appears on television and radio talking about saving money on food and fuel when cooking, and in 2009 co-presented a cookery series documenting life and food on The Silk Road, China.
Most recently, James launched his own range of cookery books which included mix., dinner., veg. and cake.  These contain a wide variety of simple recipes, user-friendly techniques and timesaving tips for chefs of all abilities.  The books in the series have been very well received.  In fact, they won the prestigious Gourmand Award for “Best Series of Cookbooks in the World.”

James is also an authorised demonstrator for AGA and Rayburn, both nationally and internationally. He continues to present at food festivals and corporate events and can often be seen driving along any given motorway with a turkey in a bucket of ice in the passenger seat.

James is a member of the Guild of Food Writers and the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals).
